The Messiah's Children Rescue and Life Center began more than a decade ago, as the dream of one young man who's sole desire was to help lift his fellow Kenyans out of hopelessness and despair.
Pastor Patrick Kimaiyo began this noble work in his home town, Moi's Bridge, halfway between Kitale and Eldoret in the Great Rift Valley of western Kenya.
Currently, the orphanage provides shelter, food, clothing, education, and some medical attention to more than 200 children, and provides food assistance to a handful of local senior citizens.
More than half of the children are AIDS orphans, who would otherwise have no one to care for them.
Author Drew Harmon has worked with Pastor Kimaiyo since 2004 to raise the funding and seek out the resources necessary to fulfill this ongoing work.
Q: Wait, who is running the show on the ground in Kenya?
A: Patrick Kimeli Kimaiyo is the director of Messiah's Children Rescue and Life Center.
The orphanage is registered as a self-help organization with the government. I have worked with Patrick Kimaiyo in supporting the MCRLC since 2004. Facebook: Overseer Patrick Kimaiyo.
Donation FAQ
Q: Is any part of this tax deductible?
A: No. Trespass Island Books is not a 501c3 organization, and will have to pay taxes on every cent it makes on the sale of Uncle Arctica.
Q: How will the money be used?
A: Funds are applied first to the monthly support needs ( food/lodging/staff,.approximately $800 per month,) then to
infrastructure.
$1500 will build one dorm/classroom combo building.
$3000 will build two dorm/classroom combo buildings.
$4200 Builds two combo units and buys a 100' X 50'plot of land for cultivation or future expansion.
$8000+ builds two combo units, and a multipurpose hall.
Any funds left over will be applied to the customary monthly support needs.
Q: What kind of overhead expenses are there?
A: A small fee charged by the sales platform, and a small fee for the Western Union money transfer constitute the only overhead.
Q: When are funds sent to Kenya?
A: Infrastructure funds are sent incrementally as needed to ensure security. For example, if we are building a dorm, we send $500 for the concrete work. When it is complete then we sent $500 for the brick laying, then finally $500 for the roofing.
